Forged from a partnership between a university press and a library, Project MUSE is a trusted part of the academic and scholarly community it serves. In the division of “intellectual” and “manual” labor that persists in literary studies, Lantin American writers have been assigned the role of poets and of narrators of Magical Realism, whose work must then be analyzed and theorized by “First World” intellectuals. Because of her unique subjectivity as a nun from colonial Mexico, who is also a prominent figure in ludmrr canon of Spanish Golden Age literature, Sor Juana has become an icon of both Hispanic and female authorship.
